Tamara has traveled with me and my family, holding our hearts and our hands with hers, through celebrations and loss, for over 25 years, beginning with her role as a religious leader for my family. She officiated my youngest daughter’s Bat Mitzvah years ago. This, alone, was something to behold, because my daughter has special needs, and I had been told by many people that a Bat Mitzvah would elude her- be too difficult for her to manage. But Tamara had faith in her and with lots of love and support, my daughter danced through the ceremony with flying colors, leaving many in the congregation in tears. Tamara became my lifelong hero.
We stayed connected in one way or another over the years and when it came time to find a rabbi to officiate my dear mother’s funeral, I knew it had to be Tamara. She touched us all with her kind, loving words, helping us through that difficult time of loss.
Tamara’s giving heart brims with love, intuition, intelligence, humility, and so much more. She truly lights up a room and embraces every walk of life (including dogs and birds).

Rabbi Tamara Kolton came to the “Wisdom Circle” class, sponsored by University of Michigan, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, on November 8, 2019 and taught the class about Judaism. Her class was intelligent, wise, and fun. The Adult Learners loved it. The “Wisdom Circle” is a class designed to give the learners a broad view and appreciation of the World’s Great Religions. We appreciated it very much and hope to have her back for future classes.

It should make you feel like a saint to know that you were the 1st person I (and many others, I’m sure) thought of in our time of sadness, anxiety and need.
